Supreme court verdict not applicable to Aadhar-PAN Linking

New Delhi, Aug 29: A statement was made yesterday. The Government has stated that Aug 31 is the last date for linking Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhar.

Many people have thought they could avoid their linking of cards because of the recent judgement by Supreme Court stating that "Privacy is a Fundamental Right" and it would impact Aadhar linking.

The Government has clarified that "the privacy judgment was silent on its implications on Aadhar and as things stand today, linking of Aadhar and PAN is mandatory".

Earlier the government has extended the deadline by one month for the process of linking because many people have complained that they couldn't match their details.

The Government in its Budget 2017 has proposed to link the two cards so that people don't evade taxes by using multiple pan cards and has made Aadhar compulsory for filing Income Tax returns.
