National teachers training program to be launched soon

New Delhi, Aug 29: The Human Resources and Development Ministry has done all arrangements to start a biggest national wide education program for the teachers on the coming Gandhi Jayanti under which it has planned to train around 11.09 lakh untrained teachers by March 2019.

On the other auspicious occasion of teachers' day, the ministry is planning to kick start its project of educating 2000 students of the Kendriya Vidyalayas using the tablets. These tablets will be used to teach students subjects like Science and Maths.

The HRD minister, Prakash Javadekar told media on Monday that teachers' education is important for the development of the nation and currently there are more than 11 lakh untrained teachers, which are teaching in schools. Out of these 11 lakh teachers, six lakh are in government schools and remaining five lakh are in private schools.

Under the rules of the RTE act, earlier, these teachers were supposed to complete their diploma in the elementary education by 2015.

He further added that there will be no more extensions for this and this is the last chance for the teachers to train themselves or they will lose their jobs.

"We will start the courses on October 2 and will continue them till June 2018. Next year, it starts in July and it will go on until March 19, 2019. The program includes 1,080 lectures and nine courses in 10 languages.

Apart from online training, there will also be a total of 24 face-to-face workshops during school holidays. For the first time, we are having this kind of technology-enabled teacher training for lakhs of teachers", he said.
