India warns International Tobacco Giant

New Delhi Aug 19: A warning was issued.
Indian government has said that it will take punitive action against Philip Morris International Inc. Sources say that health ministry has sent a letter to the company stating that " the tobacco giant has allegedly violated the country's anti-smoking laws".

The letter reveals that the company has revealed that " the company was deploying marketing tactics in India, for targeting young people are illegal."

some of the methods followed are

* Cigarette advertisements at kiosks.

* The free distribution of Marlboro smokes at nightclubs and bars.

* The use of TV screens to promote the world's best-selling cigarette brand at these events.

Experts say that the above methods deployed are the violation of the country's tobacco control law and are subject to punishment under the act.

The government said that it would impose a fine and also imprison the officials for 2 years if required the company fails to clarify its stand.
