EC to formulate Social Media Policy

New Delhi Aug 19: A reform may take place soon.
Election Commission will soon formulate a social media policy.Election Commissioner O P Rawat said that "It has come to the notice of the commission that paid operators run by PR firms are being actively deployed to shape public opinion online".

He has also said that "With the increasing spread of mobile internet technology, the influence of social media was also increasing and it was high time that it was recognized as media and its content was monitored".EC commissioner hoped that new social media policy would address the above issues.

OP Rawat has slammed all political parties and said that "winning today was more important without consideration of ethics, Democracy thrives when elections are free, fair and transparent. However, it appears to a cynical common man that we have been scripting a narrative that places a maximum premium on winning at all costs to the total exclusion of ethical considerations."

He said the above remarks while speaking on the occasion of election reforms.
