India Tightens rules for Chinese power companies

New Delhi Aug 18: A standoff may result in a Trade war.
India may tighten rules for Chinese businesses entering power transmission and telecom sector.

Sources say that Government will soon order to conduct stringent examinations on equipment procured by foreign companies, to thwart any possible malware attacks that can lead to compromise of national security.

Central Electricity Authority has submitted a report to the government and has listed the new guidelines to especially "check China's advancements into sensitive sectors".

Sources say that Chinese firms such as
* Harbin Electric
* Dongfang Electronics
* Shanghai Electric
* Sifang Automation
will be under the government's scanner.

Currently, these companies either supply equipment or manage power distribution networks across 18 cities in India.

Sources say that tightening rules would be a boon to local manufacturers and equipment providers and they have lobbied against the intrusion of Chinese companies into the power sector for a long time.

Indian Manufacturers have said that China has allegedly entered via the Back door and they have blocked us from entering their country.

Sources say that the Government will soon take such steps so that cyber attacks can be prevented. Recently the government has urged the mobile companies to comply with cyber security norms and asked whether data present in Chinese mobile phones were safe.

Experts say that this move would help in strategically putting pressure on China amidst the recent provocations by the country regarding the Doklam standoff.
