LED appliances soon at petrol bunks :Goyal

New Delhi Aug 17: A statement was issued recently.
Piyush Goyal Union Minister for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines yesterday has said that "India may become the first country in the world to use only LED products for lighting needs by 2019."

Minister has made the above remarks after a MoU was signed between Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and the three state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs).

According to MOU signed petrol pumps would distribute "Ujala energy-efficient appliances".

Goyal has said that "India delivers on its promises and that country is sensitive towards the global efforts to fight the adverse effects of climate change."

He hoped that the MOU signed would help in achieving the target of 100 % LED lighting of the country by 2019.



Currently, the prices of appliances available at petrol pumps are as follows

* 9W LED bulbs for Rs 70
* 20W LED tube light for Rs 220
* five-star rated ceiling fan for Rs 1,200.

He has also said that

# 25.5 crore LED bulbs
# 30.6 lakh LED tube lights
# 11.5 lakh energy-efficient fans

have been distributed to people under 'Ujala' scheme.

He hoped that the scheme has saved the customers RS 13000 crore annually.
