New Delhi Aug 16: A data has been released by the finance ministry.The data relates to the banking sector.
* 9000 wilful defaulters owe RS 92,000 crore to Public sector banks by March 2017.
* The loan amount given to people (wilful defaulters) has increased by 20 % in the last year.
* The total debt by WD stood at Rs 76,685 crore at the end of March 2016.
* 10 % increase in the number of wilful defaulters on an annual basis.
* Banks have filed FIR (First Information Report) in 1,914 cases with outstanding loans of
Rs 32,484 crore.
* In 2016-17, 27 public sector banks, have written off Rs 81,683 crore, the highest in the last
five fiscals.
* The amount of haircut taken by banks was 41 per cent higher than that in the previous fiscal.
* SBI and its associates alone have written off Rs 27,574 crore non-performing assets (NPAs)
in 2016-17.
* Gross NPAs of the public sector banks rose to Rs 6.41 lakh crore at the end of March 2017.
* The total NPA stood at Rs 5.02 lakh crore in 2015-16
Currently, Wilful defaulter is a person who borrows money from financial institutes and doesn't return it and siphons the loan amount taken.
