Delhi Court about Rape effectivity

New Delhi, Aug 15: The Delhi sessions court made vital remarks in the hearing of rape case and sentenced seven years rigorous imprisonment to a man and imposing a fine of Rs 25,000 to the victim.

"Rape is not only a physical assault, it often destroys the whole soul of the personality of the helpless female," the court said.

The accused man, who was her cousin's husband, had raped her on March 26, 2016. When he tried to rape her again, she called up the police and narrated her ordeal. The man had denied the allegations.

The court said that ours is a conservative society and therefore a young unmarried woman will not put her reputation in peril by alleging falsely about the forcible sexual assault.

"A sexual assault brings in humiliation, feeling of disgust, tremendous embarrassment, sense of shame, trauma and lifelong emotional scar to a survivor," the court pointed out.

"It must, therefore, be realized that a woman who is subjected to sexual violence would always be hesitant about disclosing her plight," it observed.

The accused's lawyer sought leniency, arguing he had to support his aged parents and his family, besides having no criminal antecedents.
