New president assents 6 bills

New Delhi Aug 14: India's new president has started performing his duty.Country's First citizen has Ram Nath Kovind has given assent to six key legislations in last 3 weeks. The bills he has approved are as follows

* The Admiralty (Jurisdiction and Settlement of Maritime Claims) Act, 2017

* Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill, 2017.

* Collection of Statistics (Amendment ) Bill, 2017

* The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-private Partnership) Bill, 2017.

* The National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research (Amendment) Bill, 2017.

* The Footwear Design and Development Institute Bill,2017

Admiralty Bill: The bill repeals two archaic laws Admiralty Court Act, 1861, Admiralty Act, 1890. The new Act ensures that maritime claims can be settled in the respective high courts and over the territorial waters of their respective jurisdictions.

RTE Bill: the bill ensures that all 11 lakh teachers appointed till March 2015 under the Right to Education (RTE) Act must acquire the prescribed minimum qualifications for firming up their appointments by 2019.

Statistics Bill: The Act empowers the Centre to collect socioeconomic and other statistical data from Jammu and Kashmir.

IIT public Private Partnership Bill: This act grants statutory status to the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs).The bill also declares 15 IIT in the country as 'institutions of national importance'.

NITSER Bill: The act accords the status of national importance to the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) and Berhampur (Odisha).

FDDI Bill: The Act empowers the central government to create Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) in Noida to grant degrees and diplomas.
