New Delhi Aug 11: Rajya Sabha New Chairman has made his maiden speech. The main highlights of the Venkaiah Naidu speech are "I am from a small village. Son of a farmer. I've had a long journey and finally, in spite of my humble background, keeping in view the responsibilities cast upon me, I will try to do my best. I feel humbled by the honor given to me and I am grateful to all concerned for giving me such great support".

Naidu has also said that "Now there will be no more talk of parties. Now, I'm an all party man, above the talk of party politics. I will be the person above politics and I will try to see that the House is functional and that every one of you gets an opportunity to speak," he says.

The Chairman has elaborated about his role and has said that "We are the world's largest democracy and fastest growing economy," He said that time management is most important so that every member would get a right to speak."

He exhorts the House to utilize the full time available. "This House meets less than a 100 days a year. Can't we be united in the pursuit of common national goals?" he asks. "Adversarial politics should not be allowed to impact the working of the Parliament."

"We are all political rivals, not enemies," he says. "We must act together, we must come together, we must discuss. Met Pranab Mukherjee, he told and I'm repeating: Parliament to should debate, discuss, not disrupt."

He has also given some suggestion to both opposition and government and has said that "Opposition has a right to say, a government has a way". "An attitude of give and take on both sides is needed, says Mr. Naidu. "Let the Government propose, let the Opposition oppose and let the House dispose."

He has also suggested the media that they should telecast crucial and constructive debates and not negativism.Finally he has said that house is for discussion and not disruption.
