Exempt new GST rates for Govt schemes: TRS MP

Hyderabad, Aug 05: The TRS Parliamentary Party MP Jithender Reddy urged Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to exempt from the GST new rated for Government Projects here on Friday.

Mr.Reddy has asked relief from the new rates under GST on the material used in projects like Mission Bhagiratha (MB) and Double Bed Room Houses Scheme undertaken by the State government.

The MP's moved an adjournment motion in the Parliament in the morning. But as it was disallowed, they made a mention of the same during the Zero-hour seeking the Centre's intervention.

Jithender Reddy explained the need to exempt the material involved in the projects so that the State government could avoid cost escalation.

The two projects were meant to benefit the poorer sections of the society, he pointed out. Because of GST, the tax was hiked from 5 per cent to 18 per cent on most of the material like pipes, casings etc., and this was forcing the Government to bear an additional burden, he said.

Arun Jaitley said he would look into the issue.
