AP to get two National Highways

Vijayawada, Aug 04: The Andhra Pradesh Minister for Roads and Buildings Ch.Ayyanna Patrudu has announced that the Central government has given its in-principle approval for a declaration of two State roads as National Highways.

One highway is proposed from Malkangiri to Sabbavaram via Narsipatnam and Chodavaram.

As a part of it, Sabbavaram to Tuni via Narsipatnam will be a four-lane road and Narsipatnam-Chintapalli-Malkangiri will be a two-lane one.

The 282-km road is estimated to cost Rs.1,900 crore and 660 hectares of land has to be acquired.As it involves forest land, the permission of the Central government has to be obtained.It will have 11 by-pass roads of 55-km and a ring road at Narsipatnam.

After a meeting with officials, the Minister told reporters here on Tuesday that it was proposed to complete the road in two-and-a-half years.

The other highway is from Rajamahendravaram to Vizianagaram, passing through Rampachodavaram, KD Peta, Lammasingi, Paderu, and Araku.

The 440-km road will be a double-lane one and will cost Rs.3,000 crore.

The road would provide connectivity to the entire Agency area and accelerate development, the Minister said.
