India GDP linked with Internet traffic

New Delhi July 15: A report was published recently. ICRIER has published a report on the digital economy of the country. The main highlights of this report are

* Internet-based applications have contributed Rs. 1.4 lakh crore to the country's Gross Domestic Product GDP in 2015-16.

* A 10 % increase of Internet traffic is equivalent to an increase of 3.3 per cent of India's GDP.

* A 10 % increase in mobile Internet traffic would raise the country's GDP by 1.3 percent.

* Indias internet traffic has increased by 17 % in 2015 and this resulted in an increase of Rs 10,390 crore in GDP.

* The Internet economy would contribute $ 537.4 billion to India's GDP by 2020.

* Apps would contribute Rs 27,090 crore to country's GDP by 2020.

Finally, the report has said that Apps and the Digital economy would create many new opportunities and would generate new jobs for youth in the country.
