TS Govt to set up new Super speciality Hospitals

Hyderabad, July 14: The Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao has attended a workshop, which was organized by National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) here Thursday.

He asked the Health Department to hand over the 145 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) in Hyderabad to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for providing better health services to the urban poor. He said that the govt will setup 4 new super specialty hospitals like Osmania and Gandhi hospitals.

"There are 145 UPHCs in Hyderabad, if the Health Minister C Laxma Reddy can hand over these UPHCs to GHMC, we will be happy to run them more effectively than the 'Mohalla clinics' functioning in New Delhi," said KTR.

The Minister KTR alleged that the earlier governments had neglected the Medical and Health sector in government and encouraged corporate hospitals.

He said that 42 percent of the population in Telangana lives in urban areas, which is highest in the country. The rural people migrate to urban areas just to have a better livelihood. He stressed on the need to have coordinated and better convergence between the Health Department and Urban Local Bodies.

KTR has stated that 80 per cent of the problems among the urban poor was due to lack of proper drinking water. The project would be completed within 18 to 19 months. He asked the officials to use the technology to the optimum level for providing better services.
