GST : E-way bill soon

New Delhi, July 10: A good news for transporters. Sources say that E-Way Bill provision which is an essential part of GST would be implemented from October 2017. Currently the GST council has decided that states would implement their own electronic billing system.

However, the new rule to be proposed will be as follows

* Movements of goods more than Rs 50,000 must be registered online in GST Network/ website.

* The GST network will generate e -waybills which will be valid up to 1-20 depending on the distance traveled.

# 1 day for 100 km.
# 3 days (100 to less than 300 km).
# 5 days (300-500 km).
# 10 days (500-less than 1,000 km).
# 20 days (more than 1000 kms).

The government is currently developing the necessary infrastructure and a centralized database and software so that bills will be generated smoothly. Sources say that the GST council may take up this issue in the next meeting to be held on August 5.

Let's hope that government introduces e way bills soon so that true spirit of GST is acheived.
