Guru Pournami in India

New Delhi, July 9: A Hindu festival is being celebrated today. All gurus will celebrate Guru Pournami today. In some parts of India, it is also called Ved Vyas puja.

Guru Purnima is the first full moon night that occurs after Summer season has completed in India. Priests say that it comes in the month of Ashadam (according to Telugu calendar). On this auspicious day, many people thank their Gurus and remember the contributions they have made for shaping up one's own personality.

Some believe that this day is a tribute to Lord Ved Vyasa who wrote four Vedas such as Rig-Veda, Sama-Veda, Yajur-Veda, and Atharva-Veda. Traditionally many people celebrate this day by touching the feet of gurus and do fasting.

Earlier today NASA has also tweeted about Guru Pournami. the space research organization has described today by giving many names to the moon by saying Hay Moon, Mead Moon, Ripe Corn Moon and Thunder Moon and Guru Purnima.

Let's hope that all people celebrate this day by remembering their Gurus who have imparted knowledge.
