Assembly seats of Telugu States to be increased

Hyderabad, July 5: Here is another step forwarded regarding the increasing assembly seats in the two Telugu-states. According to Section 26 of the Partition Act, the Central jurisdiction has given green signal to amend the constitution to increase assembly seats.

In this perspective, the file has been approved by the Legal Department and sent to Home Department. The Justice Department has stated that it is sufficient to make a minor amendment to Article 170 (3) which has been a hurdle to the Assembly seat so far.

It is said that the amendment of the provisions contained in that Article is not applicable to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The Section Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said, "In order to increase Assembly seats in two Telugu states by 2019, according to Section 26 of the Division Act, an amendment to Article 170 (3), he opinioned.

The Union Minister Rajnath Singh had asked the Law Advisory about two months ago since it was in charge of implementing the guarantees in the Partition Act. They have taken a look at all the aspects and instructed the previous Attorney General to indicate how to make a constitutional amendment.

It is said that 50% of the states have no need for approval for the constitutional amendment and only if the Bill passes in Parliament is sufficient.
