PAN to be linked with GST

New Delhi June 30 :Central government is taking steps to prevent tax evasion. Sources say that Centre is examining a proposal to link GST number with PAN. Currently, GST number is given to all indirect taxpayers and Permanent Account Number is issued by income tax department.Experts say that this step would link both direct taxes and indirect taxes.

Officials say that this move will help to prevent tax evasion by cross checking GST payments with income tax paid. This would also help in increase of taxpayers compliance.

Currently, PAN card has been issued to 240 million people while GSTIN was issued to 6.56 million people. Finally government feels that new tax regime and linkage to PAN will curb black money.
