Meira Kumar started her election campaign

New Delhi, June 30: The Opposition's candidate Meira Kumar on Friday started her election campaign with Mahatma Gandhi's Sabarmati Ashram, saying that her fight was to bring the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi to the nation.

Coincidentally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited here on Thursday for the hundred years of the ashram.

Mahatma Gandhi had established this ashram in the year 1917 and from here he led the movement of freedom of India.

Meira spent about 40 minutes in the ashram. She was accompanied by PPCC leader Bharat Singh Solanki and Shankar Singh Vaghela.

Meera stands against NDA Candidate Ram Nath Kovind in the presidential election going to be on July 17.

Initiating its election campaign, Mira said, "The battle I am fighting for this time is for the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. We need to take Gandhi's ideology forward.

"72-year-old Congress leader Meera said," I have come here to gain some power from this place. " I spent some time in Gandhiji's house 'Hriday Kunj' in the ashram. I have got so much energy to take this fight forward today.

She said, "I wish prosperity for the people of Gujarat, especially those living on marginalization." Meera also tried her hand at the Charkha at the ashram.

Meira, who arrived at the airport here on Thursday night, had said that this election is 'fight for ideologies' and not the 'Dalit versus Dalit' fight.
