UN cautions Sudan over famine

Juba, Sudan June 22: A good news from a country. United Nations has declared that South Sudan is free from famine. The agency has also raised a concern that nearly 2 million people are on the edge of starvation and also said that there would be extreme food shortages in the country in coming months.

The UN has officially declared South Sudan as a famine affected area after Somalia's 2011 crisis. The organization has lauded the efforts of the country to bring many people out of famine and provide them food, but more efforts are needed to prevent such crisis in future.

Severe famines have affected South Sudan in February and many people have died. Currently, a famine is declared by the UN in a country based on the following criteria

* At least 20 % of the population faces extreme food shortages.
* At least 30 % of children under 5 years old suffer from acute malnutrition.
* People death rate is double than normal rate.

Let's hope that Sudan follows UNs advice so that the people don't die because of the starvation.
