Jayashankar was an inspiration to the Telangana Statehood movement

Hyderabad June 22: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, on Wednesday, said Prof K Jayashankar was an inspiration to the great Telangana Statehood movement from the beginning to the end.

The Chief Minister remembered Prof Jayashankar on his death anniversary.

He said that Prof Jayashankar had spoken about injustices meted out to Telangana when the United AP was formed.

He also said Prof Jayashankar, throughout his lifetime, had created awareness about the injustices and discrimination meted out to the Telangana region.

The sixth death anniversary of Prof Jayashankar was observed across the State. Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and senior Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders paid floral tributes in all the districts to the leader who was on the frontline of the fight for Telangana along with the Chandrasekhar Rao. He died before the formation of the State.

Leaders recalled that Prof Jayashankar led several agitations from 1962 to 1969 and hailed his commitment to the cause of separate Telangana till the culmination of the six-decade long fight for it. They said he had opposed the merger of Telangana with Andhra as part of the re-organisation of the State in 1952.

The Chief Minister said Prof Jayashankar created awareness among the people of Telangana. "He came out openly opposing injustice meted out to them when Andhra Pradesh was formed. He devoted his life to fighting against the discrimination shown towards Telangana and its people," the Chief Minister said.
