KTR asks Venkaiah to include Karimnagar in Smart City list

Telangana, Karimnagar June 20: A good news to Karimnagar People, Soon the Karimnagar city will be one of the Smart cities in the Country.

From this perspective, Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday urged the Centre to include Karimnagar in the list of "Smart Cities".

The Minister has called on Union Information and Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi and appealed to him to include Karimnagar in the Smart Cities List.

The minister also discussed on issues pertaining to urban development and other schemes being implemented in Telangana State.

Once selected as a smart city, Karimnagar will get 200 crores from Union government towards a corpus for development. This is followed by 100 crore each for three years. But the municipal corporation already submitted a plan that will cost 1,878 crore for the all-round development of the third most populated city in Telangana. The city has plans to develop Tower Circle, Circus grounds, bus station, parks and new vegetable markets with cold storage facilities.

He also informed to Venkaiah that he attended the GST Council Meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and put forth the appeals of the state government about a reduction in tax on granite, beedi workers, handloom clothes and garments and exemption to flagship programs of water scheme and irrigation projects.
