GST will eliminate corruption in northeast DONER Minister

New Delhi, June 20: Union Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) Minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday said that one of the biggest benefits the northeast will get through Goods and Services Tax (GST) is the elimination of bribery and corruption and check the role of toll post.

"The importance of GST rollout, for the middle class and the poor, is that it will also eliminate the role of toll post and put a check on bribery and corruption," said Singh at a meeting to discuss the various aspects of GST rollout with the officials of the DONER ministry. Delhi-based Resident Commissioners of eight northeastern States also attended the meeting.

To familiarize the people with the GST, Singh said that the officials who get well versed in GST and its rollout procedure should in turn function as resource persons and collaborate with the GST Commissioners' offices spread all over in conducting awareness for businessmen, traders, members of the industry and other stakeholders.

Taking cognizance of the internet connectivity issues in the northeast, Singh said that a number of easier options are being worked out but also noted that internet connectivity is required only at the time of registration or logging in.
