India re elected to ECOSOC

United Nations, June 17: India was re-elected to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The UNs organ mainly deals with economic, social and environmental issues of the world.India will be a member of this organization for next 3 years. The country was one among 18 nations to win the re-election.

India has obtained 183 votes, the 2nd highest after Japan in the Asia Pacific category. The election for 18 vacancies in the organization was held yesterday.India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin has expressed his happiness by posting a tweet "another day, another election India wins again".

Pakistan also participated in the election but was rejected because it got only one vote. The countries which got reelected are Belarus, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Ireland, Japan, Malawi, Mexico, Morocco, Philippines, Spain, Sudan, Togo, Turkey, and Uruguay. ECOSOC is an organization responsible for coordination, policy review, policy dialogue, and recommendations relating to the implementation of the Sustainable development goals.
