APTF participated in National wide Protest against GST

Vijayawada, June 16: The textile traders have closed the shops as part of the nationwide protest against the Goods and Services Tax (GST) levied by the Central government on textile business here on Thursday.

The wholesale and retail traders and more than 700 shops in the city downed their shutters on Thursday and observed total bandh.

Vastralatha Textile Market, one of the biggest in coastal Andhra, Krishnaveni Cloth Market near Panja Centre and other textile showrooms on Beasant Road, MG Road, Eluru Road and other parts of the city remained closed as part of the protest and Bandh.

Andhra Pradesh Textile Federation (APTF) has given a call for the bandh on June 15 in the state demanding that the Central government immediately withdraw GST on textile sales.

The textile traders are suggesting that the taxes can be collected at the manufacturing level and it should not reach the last stage of retail business.

Speaking on the occasion, APTF leader Velampalli Ramchandra Rao said the taxes to be levied at various levels on the clothes and garments may reach up to 40 percent of the cost of production.

He said the common people could not buy clothes if the hefty GST is collected by the government.
