Elephant kills a monk

Colombo, June 12: A sad incident has taken place recently.Police said that An elephant attacked and killed a monk during a Buddhist procession. Officials said that this incident took place when three elephants were walking in the procession yesterday.

Priyantha Jayakody a police spokesperson said that "suddenly one elephant went on a rampage and attacked the monk in the coastal town of Kochchikade of Srilanka. The 25-year-old monk was shifted to a hospital immediately but he died early morning of June 12.

Sources say that colorfully decorated elephants are an important part of Buddhist religious processions and festivals. Finally police said that we are asking temple owners to keep away the animals out of procession so that such incidents don't occur again.

Let's hope that priests listen to police so that people's lives will be saved in future.
