Criminal turns Teacher

Shimla, June 12: A ray of hope emerged recently.An IIT student who was a criminal earlier had become a teacher. Gaurav Verma who has murdered Pragati has now started working as a teacher at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Public School in Kufri Dhar located nearby Shimla.

Currently, he teaches IIT Maths and Physics to class XI and XII students. Verma has started a new life with the encouragement of the director general (DG) Somesh Goyal who believed in prisoner's rehabilitation. Earlier the IIT student was sent to Shimla jail in 2010 for murdering his lover in a hotel.

He said that "the murder case became sensational and my face was shown to the public and I thought of ending my life but I couldn't".He also said that he has realized his mistake and he has asked the jail staff for offering him a new life. The officers have accepted his request and he was appointed as a teacher at a local school in Shimla.

Finally, he said that "As a teacher, I have more responsibility now and I not only teach them subjects but also motivate them so that they don't commit a crime just like me". Let's hope that his life becomes an inspiration for others who want to start a new life.
