Tummala Nageswara Rao: Telangana will develop river transport

Adilabad, June 11: Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has expressed his comments on Telangana river transport here on Saturday.

he said that Telangana will develop river transport once all the barrages which are being constructed across the Godavari are completed.

Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said that the barrages will be completed in the next two to three years, following which development of river transport will be easy.

Addressing media reporters here on Saturday, the Minister said construction of barrages, starting with the one at Tummidi-Hatti across Pranahita river in Koutala mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district and Kaleshwaram in Karimnagar, would pave the way for linking several towns via the Godavari in the State.

The Minister also spoke at length on the development of roads in Telangana under the current dispensation. Forest Minister

Jogu Ramanna, Housing Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy and Adilabad Member of Parliament P G. Nagesh were among those who attended the meeting.

He also added that The road transport link would continue till Bhadrachalam as the Godavari river would have water around the year owing to the barrages.

Mr. Nageswara Rao said the Central government had accepted a proposal towards this.

In the first phase, Bhadrachalam would be linked to Rajahmundry and beyond if Andhra Pradesh developed river transport, he added.
