Terrorist attack on Iran parliament

Tehran, June 8: 12 persons were killed in the first terror attack in the Parliament House and Ayatollah Khomeini's mausoleum in the heart of Tehran claimed by the Islamic State in Iran, on Wednesday.

According to Sources, A Sunni jihadist group, who belongs to the Islamic State, claimed responsibility for both the attacks in the Shia-majority nation. The IS posted a video showing a footage of the high-rise Parliament building from inside.

It was not clear whether the death toll of 12 included the attackers or the victims were killed in both incidents or only at the Parliament. According to Emergency Services chief Pir Hossein Kolivand said At least 40 people were injured.

Four gunmen armed with assault rifles forced their way into Parliament when it was in session and opened fire at visitors and security guards, In the first incident. Terrorists entered through a public entrance, apparently dressed as normal women, according to some sources.

Authorities of Iran denied there had been a hostage situation inside Parliament even as hundreds of security personnel, some are in civilian (Normal) clothes and armed with revolvers surrounded the building.

Ali Larijani, Speaker described them as a 'minor issue' by downplayed the events. But a lawmaker admitted that it was a major attack. Minutes after the Parliament attack began, the fire was opened at the mausoleum of Khomeini, by terrorists.

According to State Broadcaster, The Governor of Tehran said one attacker detonated a suicide vest and another had been killed by security forces. Several visitors were injured at the mausoleum.
