Orissa HC orders re-evaluation of Class 12 CBSE results

Bhubaneswar, June 7: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday directed CBSE to re-evaluate answer sheets of those students who had filed a petition alleging discrepancies in their Class 12 results.

Hearing a petition filed by 18 students, the high court asked them to apply for re-evaluation at the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) regional center here on Thursday by 2 p.m.

It also directed CBSE to conduct the re-evaluation and publish results by June 10, said Asim Amitabh Das, petitioners' counsel.

Notably, results of many students in Bhubaneswar zone of the board were withheld. Similarly, many students have complained of "faulty evaluation" leading to their poor showing.

Meanwhile, agitation over discrepancies in the CBSE Class 12 results intensified with a number of parents and students resorting to hunger strike in front of the board's regional office here on Wednesday.

A girl student fell unconscious during the hunger strike and had to be hospitalized, said the police.

A delegation of National Students Union of India (NSUI) met Odisha Governor S.C. Jamir on Wednesday and sought his intervention in resolving the results fiasco.

"The Governor expressed his concern over the incident. He has assured us that he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister (Naveen Patnaik)and Union HRD Minister (Prakash Javadekar)," said Itish Pradhan, state NSUI president.

Earlier, Patnaik had sought Javadekar's intervention to resolve the matter as it involves the future of the students.
