Router to siphon computer data

Jerusalem, June 7: Are you using a router for the computer be careful. Scientists have demonstrated that it is possible to secretly gather sensitive files, passwords or other critical data from any common router.

Researchers of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) in Israel have demonstrated for the first time how light-emitting diodes (LEDs) which are used in routers can be silently overridden by malware they have developed (code named "xLED"), which infects firmware in the device. when the xLED malware infects a network device, it gains full control of the LEDs that are used to flash indicate status.

Mordechai Guri, head of research and development at the BGU Cyber Security Research Center (CSRC) said that "sensitive data can be encoded and sent via the LED light pulses in various ways". He also said that cyber criminals who have access to the camera, or light sensor can record the LED's activity and decode the signals by hiding these devices in a room.It is easy to leak the data because the led devices are not monitored properly.

Finally, the scientist has warned the company and they must upgrade their security features.
