PM Modi reviews GST progress

NewDelhi June 5: A review meeting was held today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reviewed the level of preparedness of all stakeholders in government for upcoming new indirect tax regimeGoods and Services Tax (GST).

The government has fixed July 1 as roll out date for the new tax regime. The review meeting was attended by Arun Jaitley Finance Minister, Hasmukh Adhia Revenue Secretary and senior officers from the Department of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). It is the first review meeting conducted by the PM after the GST Council finalized the rates.

Officials have informed the PM about the progress of the important reform. Sources say that officials have informed that 81% of the items will fall in/below 18% slab and Only 19 % of the goods will attract GST above 18 %.

Finally, PM has given some suggestions to officers and he has expressed satisfaction over the progress of the reform.
