High expectations on bypolls in TS

Hyderabad, October 18 : Various political groups felt that by-polls have to be conducted as several people's representatives have switched loyalties after the TRS came into power in Telangana.

As many as 23 MLAs and three Lok Sabha members and several MLCs of Telugu Desam, Congress, YSR Congress and CPI have joined the ruling TRS. The leaders of respective parties filed a petition to the Speaker and also the court requesting to make these MLAs and MLCs as ineligible.

Political sources said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao talking about seats indicates the possibility of conducting by-polls. Besides the opposition parties' challenging the ruling party for elections has further supported the by-poll issue.

It was observed that the Chief Minister has to take a decision on whether to make all these MLAs ineligible or make them resign their posts. It was also said that it was an unlikely possibility to declare the defecting MLAs as ineligible.

Meanwhile, the Opposition leaders felt that by-polls are a must whatever the CM's decision may be. The TRS leaders however are confident that the public would vote for them only in the by-elections.

Congress observed that the by-elections is a good chance for them to spread 'TRS anti-democracy and anti-people's policies' among the public. Congress party senior leaders said that the elections may be conducted in the beginning of next year.

TDP leaders also said that by-elections is compulsory and gearing up to rejuvenate the party cadre. Internal discussions are going on about the effects of these elections in Andhra Pradesh.
