Bangladesh: Statue of lady Justice removed from Supreme court

Bangladesh, May 27: After objections from Islam extremists, the statue of Lady Justice has been removed from the supreme court building in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.

The sculpture, which was installed in front of the court six months back depicts a woman in a sari clutching a sword and scales, similar to the traditional depiction of the Greek goddess Themis.

Considering the statue's presence was an example of idol worship, forbidden in Islam, the Islamist groups and country's religious establishment had called off for the statue’s removal.

In accordance with the Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha's order, the statue was moved to the Museum located nearby court here on Friday.

But, there was an objection from human rights commission, non-religions and began to strike over the statue removal. The Police had done Laati charge.

The five-hour process attracted protesters and news networks, which broadcast the event live.
