More responsibilities for MEOs

Hyderabad, October 14 : The districts reorganization has increased the responsibilities of Mandal Educational Officers (MEOs). They would become the chief of all educational institutions in several mandals.

The government will soon appoint incharge MEOs and also their job chart would be announced.
The number of mandals in the State has increased from 459 to 584. The education department officials wrote to the government and finance wing seeking sanction of new posts for 125 new mandals. They are expecting permission within two or three days.

Already they planned to appoint senior headmasters of high school within the mandal as incharge MEOs and their appointments would be made official soon after getting government's permission.

There are only 44 regular MEOs in the State against the total 467 posts. Headmasters are working as incharges for the remaining 423 posts. The government had unofficially scrapped the deputy EO posts, who monitors the high schools in the division.

Since the government has not appointed Deputy EOs in the 31 districts, the MEOs, who have been limited to primary schools till date, have to look after high schools also. Also they would be given the responsibility of model schools, Kasturba Gandhi girls schools and gurukul schools.
But doubts are arising whether the MEOs can do justice to their duties.
