Aadhar to add another biometric

MUMBAI, MAY 19: Soon your voice to become your Identification.

Aadhar card issuing agency will soon add a new layer of biometric identification through voice recognition.

Currently, the biometrics used in the card are fingerprints, Iris.

The Aadhar act says that the UIDAI agency can add more layer of authentication if the security features added by it are acceptable to all citizens.

The Agency is in talks with Nuance Communications, which is behind Appleā€™s Siri voice-based assistant, to offer voice-based authentication. The company claims that voice far more secure than present biometrics.

"Aadhar founder Nelakani said that we have thought of this at early inception but we couldn't make it out for commercial reasons."

Voice biometrics specialty is that it recognizes each individual through their unique "voiceprint".

The voice of the card owner gets analyzed and cross-checked against the database of identifiers including behavioral features such as speed, cadence and pronunciation, and many physical aspects of a throat.

Currently, the company is in the trial testing of its services with three banks including ICICI Bank to offer voice authentication technology.

Currently, the company said that this service supports 14 Indian languages and expects to add more languages using its machine learning technology.

The company has made its presence in the country for the last 11 years and is currently working with the government on multiple projects.

Finally, the governments hope that adding voice to Aadhar will disable anti voices against it.
