Delhi High court bans Export of Sorefenat drug

New Delhi, May 13: The Delhi High Court yesterday put on hold an order which allows Indian Generic Drug manufacturers to manufacture, sell and export patented medicines for purposes of regulatory approval and clinical trials.

The Court said that the stay would be applicable only to Natco Pharma. The bench said that till September 21, the Indian company would not export generic drug Sorefenat.

We know that Sorefenat is a patented drug of German company Bayer. The company said that the drug will be used for treating kidney and liver cancers, in India.

The judge said that for exporting the drug for experimental purposes or for license approvals, the company shall file a separate application and the court will order the company to export the minimum amount drugs needed for approval.
