Siricilla Textile industry in Trouble?

SIRICILLA MAY 09: With the management's making mockery of wage settlement for the last two years, nearly 30,000 power looms that produce polyester cloth in Sircilla fell silent with the workers resorting to an indefinite strike here on Monday.

Since from many years, there was no change in the attitude of the power loom owners, and denying the workers due by not implementing the wage settlement.

According to the reports, The power loom owners agreed to pay 0.20 paise per 10 pieces of fabric to workers in 2015 in the presence of IT Minister KT Rama Rao, who holds the portfolio of handlooms and textiles, till date the wage settlement remained elusive for the workers.

Pantham Ravi secretary of the CPI (M) Sircilla district said 'Though we have reminded the owners of their promise, there was no response from them. Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao also told the Textile industry owners to provide a wage of at least Rs 15,000 a month, but they didn't respond to it.'

Nakka Devadas, a power-loom worker said that Asami's were not giving the payment as per the agreement citing that they were not paid by the master weavers.

As per the norms, a worker cannot run more than eight looms. Each worker has to run more than 10 power looms and work for over 12 hours in the unit to earn Rs 350 a day.

Meanwhile, Krishna Bhaskar, the District Collector, who held a meeting with the Asami's and master weavers on Monday, directed them to ensure the payment to workers as per the wage settlement. He also instructed the Labour Department Officials to book cases against them, those who refuse to abide by the law.
