Woman held for cheating, for managing a fake matrimony website

Hyderabad, May 09: The police have arrested a person, who was held for cheating people on the pretext of fixing alliances by creating fake profiles.

Police stated that, the suspect was identified as Katta Sridevi alias Shanthi (28) is a resident of Sriram Nagar Colony, ECIL, Kapra. A native of Guntur district, she came to the city few years ago and established a marriage bureau, which was entitled as Sai Sravani Marriage Bureau in Sriram Nagar Colony, Kapra.

She was published advertisements in various newspapers about the marriage bureau and when customers contacted her, she collected Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 as registration fee from them.



She allegedly downloaded women's photographs from Internet and created fake profiles, which were sent to customers. She herself would speak with customers over phone posing as the prospective bride and reject the match on one or the other pretext, police said.

Police, who have registered a case under sections of cheating and IT Act, arrested her and produced her before court, after which she was remanded to judicial custody.
