OU Alumni Association to adopt 100 Villages

Hyderabad, April 27: The Osmania University Alumni Association has decided to adopt the 100 villages in the erstwhile Telangana districts and ensure all-round development.

The alumni association with about 25,000 members, including engineers, businessmen, doctors, advocates and other professionals, will identify problems being faced by these villages with the help of district collectors and take up activities accordingly.

"The state government has been promoting village adoption scheme and already public representatives, officials, celebrities, and other important personalities have decided to adopt backward villages in the state and develop them. " Osmania University Centenary Celebrations Alumni Committee chairman Anantula Shyam Mohan told media.

Some villages are require essential infrastructure facilities such as school buildings or hospital buildings and other villages may require medical attention. "A high-level committee will be constituted with some expert members on various issues such as doctors, engineers and businessmen to interact with officials and zero in on issues pertaining to the specific village and solve them," Shyam Mohan said.

Since there are 8,600-gram panchayats in the state and only 2,500 were adopted by public representatives, the alumni members belonging to that particular village will also take up programs such as medical camps and awareness on foreign jobs.

The alumni have about 25,000 members including 7,000 engineers, 3,000 management students, 5,000 from the arts wing, 1,000 from science streams and 2,000 from technology departments.

Osmania University vice-chancellor Ramachandram agreed to host a Global Alumni meet on the campus on December 23 this year.
