ILLEGAL Sand mining rampant in Parakal

Warangal, October 4: Illegal sand mining in Cherlapalli, Narlapuram and Gunakapalli rivulants in Parakal sub-division of Warangal district was rampant, resulting in further depletion of groundwater levels. According to sources, about 1,200 cubic meters sand was being transported from each river per day.

Daily 400 tractors from these areas are supplying sand to Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and other cities. Some people are getting Tahsildar permission under the pretext of toilets construction and digging sand. The locals allege the officials' apathy.

But the newly appointed Parakala police assured of treating the sand mafia persons with iron fist. The police said they have seized more than 200 tractors, transporting sand illegally and cases were filed.

The locals warned that environment and the villages may face threat if the illegal sand mining is not controlled immediately.
