5-year-old in coma after being hit by drunk driver

Hyderabad, October 4: Yet another case of drunk driving has resulted in a horrific accident in Hyderabad just three months after a similar incident that claimed the life of 8-year-old Ramya.

Four youth in drunken condition were driving the Hyundai santro and rammed Sanjana (5) and her mother Sridevi as they were waiting for bus near Pedda Amberpet outer ring road in Hayatnagar mandal on Sunday evening. They abandoned the car and fled from the scene.

The severely injured Sanjana is on ventilator support while her mother Sridevi is in serious condition. Doctors said the girl's ribs were broken and brain was dead.

The police recovered alcohol bottles and snacks, raising suspicions that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol. The car was registered under one Ms. Sunitha of Vanasthalipuram. A few bottles with coloured water were sent to forensic labs for testing.

The main accused, responsible for the accident, Venkata Ramana surrendered to the police.
