Comprehensive survey on nallas in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, October 4: In order to identify encroachments on nallas and tanks within Greater Hyderabad limits and to remove them, the GHMC initiated a comprehensive survey about the main nallas extending to about 390 km.

A special training was imparted to the officials of revenue, survey settlement, GHMC engineering, town planning departments with this regard. Telangana State remote space applications department will help as how to conduct the survey of the nallas, interlinking of the details of surveys earlier conducted, details of encroachments on record etc. Later policy decision would be made on this.

The officials are suggesting to use the patta lands in tanks and water pits for agriculture purpose only and not to construct any pakka buildings. There are chances of cancellation of several houses constructed on tanks and nallas after the survey.

Several areas were submerged due to the recent heavy rains as most of the tanks and nallas were encroached. According to Kirloskar Committee, there were about 28,800 illegal constructions on nallas in the city.

The officials observed that encroachments on nallas could be easily identified by superimposing the satellite nalla pictures on the survey maps conducted in old Hyderabad during 1960 and 1970.
The women groups would be pressed into service to gather information of the residents of the encroached buildings.
