Hyderabad, October 4: The news about arresting a TRS leader and former DSP of Bhongir in connection with the gangster Nayeem case, were in the air but the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is yet to confirm the arrests.
The SIT has also decided to take back all the licensed weapons being used by the Nalgonda politicians. Already notices were issued to several politicians and the licenses of some other leaders have been canceled.
According to sources, eight police officials with known links to Nayeem have been served memos. Two additional SPs, three DSPs and three CIs have been asked to surrender their service revolvers.
Soon after the SIT gathered evidences about the close association of a TRS leader with Nayeem, the leader went into underground. This leader lost the 2014 elections. He contested for Bhongir MLA on Congress ticket and later joined TRS.
SIT officials interrogated a police official who worked as Bhongir DSP at the time of Belli Lalitha murder and took him into custody. But the SIT officials denied any arrests.
