Cancelled rations cards to be restored

Hyderabad, October 3: Civil Supplies Commissioner C.V. Anand assured that the ration cards of the eligible will not be cancelled and steps were being taken to renew the cards of those that were removed from Food Security list.

Responding to the media news on the cancellation of ration cards in Greater Hyderabad, he directed the officials to stop the cancellation of ration cards and to restore the eliminated cards immediately.

Though the government is spending a fortune on subsidy rice meant to those living below poverty line, only 60 per cent of public were taking this rice. Several people are taking white card.

After conducting a survey, civil supply officials have cancelled thousands of ration cards, after checking the details of income etc of the card holders.

The survey revealed that most of the public took white ration cards only to avail fee reimbursement, arogya sri and other schemes.

With only 60 to 70 per cent of population availing the benefit, 25 to 30 per cent of subsidy rice was left unused.

The officials decided to restore the ration cards of auto and taxi drivers, house owners of 50 to 70 yards who pay tax to GHMC.
