Rains benefit Adilabad farmers

Adilabad, September 30: More than normal rainfall and the weather conditions in Adilabad district have favoured the 'Aru tadi pantalu' in the district. The farmers were happy about the yield in Kharif season and the favourable rains for the next crops.

In Adilabad district, every year about seven lakh hectares would be cultivated, with farmers more inclining to cotton cultivation. This year, cotton was cultivated in 3.5 lakh hectares, soya in one lakh hectares, and paddy, wheat, maize, turmeric, millets and other crops are being cultivated in about 2.5 lakh hectares.

According to agricultural officials, the recent rains helped the growing crops, especially maize, soya, cotton, turmeric and other crops were benefitted. Paddy was cultivated under borewells only and the heavy rains prevented the threat of various crop diseases. The farmers are busy in spraying fertilizers and in removing weeds.
