Political speed breakers for demolition drive

Hyderabad, September 30: The demolition drive of illegal constructions on nalas and tanks in the State capital was slowed down due to several speed breakers. Political pressures, corruption of town planning officials, negligence, partiality etc are hindering the drive.

MLAs of both the ruling and Opposition parties have opposed indirectly and directly the demolition of buildings in the city on Thursday. Several victims tried to lay siege Kapra Municipal office on the day.

MLA Khousar Mohiudding stopped the demolition squad from pulling down the G Plus, a five story building at Brundavan Colony near Tolichowki. After two-hours of tension, the squad had to return without doing their work.

The GHMC officials went to Saibaba Nagar near Suraram to pull down a building being constructed in government land by a political leader. But they have to return without completing the work after getting a phone call from an MLA.

It is already known that MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar had openly supported the public protest against the demolition of buildings in Chakripuram of Cherlapally division.

Despite all the odds, the officials have pulled down 180 illegal constructions on Thursday against their target of 190. With this the total number of buildings that were demolished rose to 665.
