Demolition drive continues with a few hiccups

Hyderabad, September 29: About 492 illegal constructions on nalas, tanks were razed in three days in Hyderabad. But there was criticizm that the GHMC officials are ignoring those encroachments constructed by some bigwigs. More than 250 illegal constructions were demolished in the first two days.

The Town Planning officials are pulling down the buildings as suggested by people's representatives and public complaints. Demolition drive is going on war footing in Kutbullahpur, Jagadgirigutta, Magdum Nagar, Gajula Ramaram.

Mayor Rammohan and Commissioner Janardhan Reddy are personally monitoring the drive. But the third day works faced a few hindrances due to political pressures and revenue officials' alleged corruption.

Revenue officials identified 15 illegal constructions near Banjara Lake at Banjara Hills Road No. 14. They even marked red a six-storied building, which was under construction on the nala and JCBs came to collapse it.

But the officials have returned without demolishing after a high drama of about two hours. The locals of Kapra and others who obstructed the officials from collapsing the buildings questioned them how could the pull down the poor people's houses leaving those of rich persons.

But the GHMC officials tried to convince them that there would be no future problems if these illegal buildings are demolished now. Flood water will not enter into houses, they added.
