Parties gearing up for civic polls

Vijayawada, September 26: The AP municipal elections are starting to heat up with the ruling TDP and Opposition YSRCP as the chief contenders. YSRCP chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, 10 days ago, appointed in-charges for the 11 municipalities and corporations that would go for polls.

These in-charges should prepare the list of aspirants to contest the polls, along with their strengths, weaknesses and other details. Meanwhile, ruling party chief and AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu also held a meeting with party leaders in Vijayawada.

The party leaders were told to prepare the list of interested candidates to contest the polls. As of now YSRCP will have no electoral alliance but decision would be taken if Left parties propose for combined fight in the polls.

Meanwhile, TDP and BJP alliance is contesting jointly. But according to sources, BJP leaders are considering to take Visakhapatnam and Tirupati, and also either Guntur or Kakinada Mayor seats. Whether TDP agrees to this proposal is yet to be known.

Naidu is taking it prestigious to win all the 11 seats. If it give two seats to BJP, that means losing these two to YSRCP. On the other hand, discussions are going on over the alliance between Congress and Left parties or these two will join YSRCP to field joint candidates. If this happens, then it will become a tough fight the ruling TDP.
