Heavy Rains in Several Districts of A.P.

Vijayawada, September 24: Heavy rains over the last one week have wreaked havoc in Andhra Pradesh, especially in Guntur and Srikakulam districts. Transport was badly affected due to flood water stagnation on roads. Several low-lying colonies were inundated.

The officials have alerted the Lanka area villagers due to heavy flood flow to Krishna River. 1.30 cusecs of water was released from Pulichintala project to Prakasam barrage, from there the outflow was released into the sea by lifting all gates. Nagavali and Vamshadhara rivers in Srikakulam district are virtually overflowing.

Penugotivada and Mathala villages in Kothur mandal are facing the threat of submergence. Devakivada, Kothapet, VPR Peta villages near Vegavathi river were surrounded by flood water. Coming to Vijayawada, low lying areas were submerged while the roads are filled with garbage due to overflowing of drainages.

The tanks in villages are brimming with water. Meanwhile, flood water flow to Prakasam barrage is increasing. 70 gates were lifted to 3 ft high to release water. Tourists were not allowed inside Bhavani island.

The officials alerted the people living low lying areas and to contact toll free number : 1077 in emergency. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is monitoring the situation through video conference.
